Actress, film director, producer, and author – needless to say, Diane Ladd is a legend. Ladd has appeared in more than 120 television and film roles, in 1974, she won the BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her role in the flick Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore. She also won the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress on Television for Alice, and to receive Academy Award nominations for Wild at Heart and Rambling Rose.
Johnny Galecki As Rusty Griswold
Whoa, back in 1989, Johnny Galecki portrayed Rusty Griswold in National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, don’t think we knew that! Galecki is best known for playing David Healy on the ABC sitcom Roseanne and Dr. Leonard Hofstadter in the hilarious CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory since 2007.
Alexander Folk As Swat Officier
LA born, Alexander Folk had dreams of becoming an actor and that’s exactly what he did. Apart from his role as the SWAT Officer in National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, he went on to star in Dreamgirls (2006), Lost Highway (1997) and City of Angels (1998).
Brian Doyle Murray As Frank Shirley
That’s right, you’re looking at Bill Murray’s older brother and yes, they have acted together in many films like Caddyshack, Ghostbusters II, and Groundhog Day. Currently he stars in a recurring role as Don Ehlert on the hit ABC sitcom The Middle.
Doris Roberts As Francis Smith
For six decades now, Doris Roberts has lead a strong career as an actress, author, and philanthropist – she’s also a huge advocate for animal rights and animal-rights activism. Her acting career started in 1951 and in that time, she has earned five Emmy Awards and a Screen Actors Guild award. Roberts played a small role in National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation which is why most of us remember her as Raymond Barone’s overbearing mother, Marie Barone, on the hilarious long-running CBS sitcom, Everybody Loves Raymond. She just retired in 2016, winning the Lifetime Achievement Award.
E.G. Marshall As Art
Before his tragic death in 1998 from lung cancer, E.G. Marshall lead an extraordinary career. He is best remembered for his television roles as Lawrence Preston on The Defenders and as David Craig on The Bold Ones: The New Doctors. In the film world, his roles in 12 Angry Men, Superman II, and Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut are legendary.
John Randolph As Clark Griswold Sr
As a film, television and stage actor, John Randolph has done a ton! Even winning the 1987 Tony Award for Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Play for his performance in the Neil Simon play, Broadway Bound. He has starred in plenty of film and television roles as well, including M*A*S*H, Family Ties, Roseanne, and You’ve Got Mail. In 2004, Randolph sadly died at age 88.
William Hickey As Uncle Lewis
William Hickey is best remembered for his Academy Award-nominated role as Don Corrado Prizzi in Prizzi’s Honor, as well as the loveable Uncle Lewis in National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation and the voice of Dr. Finklestein in Tim Burton’s amazing The Nightmare Before Christmas. In 1997, he sadly passed away.
Julia Louis Dreyfus As Margo Chester
Oh man, this incredible actress, comedian, and producer once starred in National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation and that’s almost too much to bare. For most fans, she’s best remembered for playing Elaine Benes on Seinfeld, currently she stars in the television series Veep. Before we forget, this legend holds numerous records for the most Primetime Emmy Award wins and nominations.
Juliette Lewis As Audrey Griswold
After portraying the cutie Audrey Griswold, she went on to garner a ton of fame, especially in 1991 as Danielle Bowden in Martin Scorsese’s remake of Cape Fear, gaining a nomination for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. After this, she starred in many more awesome films and shows in major roles like in What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, Strange Days, Kalifornia, From Dusk till Dawn, and The Other Sister.
Mae Questel As Aunt Bethany
Bet you didn’t know that Mae Questel was an actress and voice artist who provided the iconic voices for the animated characters Betty Boop and Olive Oyl. I know, right, pretty darn incredible! She occasionally went on to play small roles in film and television later on in her career, perhaps most notably for the role of Aunt Bethany in National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.

Since 1979, Miriam Flynn has been a voice and character actress, and a good one at that. Best remembered in her career as Cousin Catherine in National Lampoon’s Vacation and as Grandma Longneck in The Land Before Time franchises. Flynn has gone on to star in a few films and several television series, including the recurring role as Sister Helen on Grounded for Life.
